What would Jesus say to Donald Trump?

I know lots of evangelical Christians like Donald Trump because they think he’ll be a tough President who protects them from terrorism, from economic Armageddon, from being played by freeloaders who game the system.

And I know lot of other folks think his candidacy is a joke because he is a misogynist, a bombastic and offensive product of reality TV, a failed businessman and a buffoon.

So I was asking Jesus, you know, what He thinks of Donald Trump. And it’s so surprising the impression I get, which is that if Donald Trump were listening, I feel like Jesus might say to him …

“I see you. And I made you. And I love you! You don’t have to try so hard. You don’t need anyone’s approval, and you don’t need to be the circus master. Everything you’ll ever need is already available to you right here, in abundance, in me. When you can relax, be still, and let my love wash over you, you will find the healing and hope you’ve been searching for. Until then, I’ll be waiting. And I’ll see you. And love you.”

Funny thing is, this is sort of what Jesus says to each and every one of us …

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me. For I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28-30

I don’t know if Donald Trump is listening. But I get the impression he, like the rest of us, could use rest for his soul.
