I leave you here for a bit

I’ll be back on Monday, Lord willing. My Lenten discipline is to blog every week day. So grateful you are along with me on this journey! Have a nice weekend. And now for Friday…

“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.” — John 14:26 MEV

Yes, yes, yes! This is amazingly true in my life. From the time that I began to hear the voice of Jesus — from the time that I began to feel a little fraction of his overwhelming love for me, the Holy Spirit has revealed so much to me about the nature of our Savior, the very substance of God, and the meaning of his words.

When you grow up in the fundamentalist environment, which I suppose the Assemblies of God is, you are taught that the Scriptures mean a certain thing. But the Scriptures themselves do not say that certain thing in so many words. The Scriptures themselves stand there awaiting an interpretation. When the Holy Spirit is your teacher, the interpretation is often very different than what your Bible authorities taught you.

Somehow the words of Jesus always seem to reveal his love and propound the themes of death to this world and resurrection in him. While we talked about the love of God in the Assemblies of God church, it never had nearly so prominent a place as I find my teacher the Holy Spirit puts it always.

So this message from Christ seems so very true to me. The Holy Spirit reminds me of his words — and then gives me a new look at them I may never have heard or thought of before. Give it a try — you may be amazed by what you discover.

Blessed be the name of the Lord.
