“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.” (John 5:25, NASB)

As soon as I read this passage, and I am not saying I haven’t read it before; I am sure I have — but this time it jumped out at me that I have experienced it —

Experienced it from the angle of the dead who heard Christ’s voice and lived!

I grew up in church and have always identified myself as a Christian.

But looking back from where I am now, I can say it wasn’t until a few years ago — until I heard Jesus’ voice — that I began to live! And I know for sure, during that darkest time in my life when I was completely bereft because I was childless, overweight, unwanted and realizing that my dreams were never going to come true … I was dead, or as good as.

It was hearing the voice of Jesus that revived me, resurrected me! It was discovering how He loves me that brought me back to life and has filled me with passion and joy.

“The time is coming,” Jesus said. The time is coming when other spiritually and emotionally dead people like I used to be will hear His voice and live.

“And the time is now here,” He said, for people like me, who have already dropped all their brokenness and heartache at His feet and demanded that He fix it! And, hearing His voice, we live!

The time for resurrection is coming — and is now here!
